Proof-based contests that push students beyond multiple-choice math and prepare them for Olympiad-level problem solving.
Visit Official CIMC/CSMC Contest Page →The Canadian Intermediate Math Contest (CIMC) and the Canadian Senior Math Contest (CSMC) are organized by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo.
Unlike the multiple-choice format of Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat, these contests require students to write full solutions with explanations, testing mathematical reasoning, proofs, and communication skills.
November 2025 (Exact date TBD)
Registration Deadline: October 2025
CIMC: Grades 9–11
CSMC: Grade 12 or below (advanced problem solvers)
Schools register students via the CEMC Supervisor Portal. If your school does not participate, educators can request to host or connect you with a contest centre.
Strong CIMC/CSMC performance helps students stand out in scholarship applications and university admissions, especially for math, computer science, and engineering programs.
Many students who excelled in CIMC and CSMC contests later advanced to the Canadian Open Math Challenge (COMC) and the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO). For example, Waterloo-recognized top scorers have gone on to represent Canada at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
We provide structured contest training, proof-writing practice, and advanced problem-solving strategies to help your child excel.
