The Euclid Contest is Waterloo’s most prestigious high school math competition, influencing university admissions, scholarships, and STEM opportunities worldwide.
The Euclid Contest is organized by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo. It is open to Grade 12 students (or below) and consists of 10–12 written-response questions to be solved in 2.5 hours. Calculator use is permitted.
Euclid is unique because it requires full written solutions, not just answers, making it a strong measure of mathematical reasoning and communication. Results are directly considered by Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics for admissions and scholarships.
April 2026 (Exact 2-week window TBD)
Registration Deadline: March 2026
Open to Grade 12 students (or advanced students in Grade 11).
Students typically register through their school’s math department. Independent registration through CEMC contest centres is also possible.
Many top Canadian students who excel in Euclid secure admissions into Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics with scholarships. In past years, students with outstanding Euclid results have received entrance awards up to $10,000.
