Waterloo Fermat Contest (Grade 11)

The Fermat Contest challenges Grade 11 students with advanced problem-solving and prepares them for the Euclid Contest in Grade 12 and future STEM opportunities.

What is the Fermat Contest?

The Fermat Contest is run by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo. Open to Grade 11 students, it consists of 25 multiple-choice questions to be solved in 60 minutes. Calculator use is permitted.

Named after Pierre de Fermat, a famous French mathematician, this contest builds higher-level problem-solving skills and prepares students for the Euclid Contest in Grade 12. Strong performance is recognized internationally. It’s a pre-requisite skill step leading to contests that unlock financial awards.
