What is the Gauss Contest?

The Gauss Contest, organized by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo, attracted 76,524 participants worldwide in 2025, is designed for Grade 7 and Grade 8 students. It features 25 multiple-choice questions to be solved in 60 minutes, scored out of 150. The first questions build confidence, while the last ones challenge ingenuity and insight.

Unlike exams, this contest does not have pass/fail scores — its purpose is to foster curiosity and logical thinking.
